With all the violence that has occurred in Chicago over the past few years, it became rather easy to blame then-mayor Lori Lightfoot. Now that she is gone, we had hoped things would change in the Windy City and become better.

But that doesn’t seem to be the case.

As the Chicago Sun-Times reported, the past weekend saw a whopping 32 people shot, three of them fatally. All three fatalities occurred on Sunday. The first happened around 1 a.m. when Santos Rodriguez, 27, was shot while in “the 3700 block of West Division Street.” He later died at the hospital.

Several hours later, The second fatality occurred when someone opened fire at two men in the 3100 block of West Redfield Drive. One man was injured, and the other was killed.

Later, around 6 p.m., a 20-year-old was shot and killed by a gunman passing in a vehicle while standing on the sidewalk.

As Breitbart News reported, these are just the fatal shootings. Twenty-nine other individuals were shot and injured over the course of just two days, including four who were part of a funeral procession. A white truck passed by and opened fire on the procession, injuring two people in one vehicle and two in another.

Clearly, this means that Lori Lightfoot isn’t the only incapable leader the city has or will have. Despite newly elected Mayor Brandon Johnson’s promise that they would, things certainly don’t seem to be getting any better.

Certainly, we can’t expect those changes to happen overnight. But 32 shot in one weekend? It begs the question if anything at all is being done to stop this kind of hatred and violence in the city. Or is Johnson simply following in Lightfoot’s footsteps of ignoring and then blaming surrounding Republican states?

No wonder people are fleeing blue cities like Chicago in droves.
