Blood on Newsom’s Hands—DHS Slams Gov. After Illegal Trucker Kills Three

The Department of Homeland Security is blasting California Gov. Gavin Newsom after an illegal alien truck driver, who held a state-issued commercial license, was charged with killing three Americans in a horrific Florida crash.
The driver, Harjinder Singh, an illegal immigrant from India, was behind the wheel of a semi-truck in St. Lucie County earlier this month when he attempted an illegal U-turn. Video footage shows him pulling across traffic without hesitation. Moments later, a vehicle carrying three Americans slammed into the truck. All three passengers were killed instantly.
Singh was arrested and charged with three counts of vehicular homicide. He is now being held under an ICE detainer to ensure he doesn’t slip through the cracks of the legal system.
But DHS officials say the real responsibility lies with California’s policies. Despite being in the country illegally, Singh was able to secure a commercial driver’s license because of laws first passed in 2013 and expanded by Newsom in 2022. Those laws opened the door for more than a million illegal aliens to obtain driver’s licenses in California by 2023.
“Three innocent people were killed in Florida because Gavin Newsom’s California Department of Motor Vehicles issued an illegal alien a Commercial Driver’s License — this state of governance is asinine,” DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said. She added, “How many more innocent people must die before Gavin Newsom stops playing games with the safety of the American public?”
Newsom’s office tried to deflect blame, suggesting Singh’s ability to get a license stemmed from Trump-era policy. But DHS fired back, noting Singh’s work authorization was rejected under Trump in September 2020 and later approved under Biden in June 2021. McLaughlin clarified that commercial licenses are issued by the state, not the federal government, making California fully responsible.
The outrage is compounded by the fact that Singh showed no reaction during the fatal crash, as captured in the video circulating online. For many Americans, the tragedy is another reminder of the risks posed by sanctuary laws that allow illegal immigrants privileges reserved for legal residents and citizens.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem vowed DHS is working “around the clock” to protect Americans and remove criminal illegals from the country. But critics warn that so long as states like California continue to flout federal law with sanctuary policies, more preventable tragedies are inevitable.
With three innocent lives lost, DHS’s message is clear: sanctuary policies don’t just undermine law and order — they can be deadly.
