Now that Ron DeSantis has completely destroyed his future political prospects, the RINO billionaires that lured him into challenging Donald Trump in the first place are looking for a new dance partner. Who’s next? Reports indicate that they are now attempting to woo Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin into pouring gasoline on his political career and lighting some matches.
Back in February, DeSantis was polling just 15 points behind Donald Trump. After two lackluster debate performances (which Trump didn’t even show up for), DeSantis is now trailing Trump by as many as 51 percentage points in some polls. Several polls have him trailing Vivek Ramaswamy.
Robert Costa from CBS News says the RINO billionaire donors, who previously brought us the campaigns of Jeb Bush, John McCain and Mitt Romney, are headed to Virginia next month. Gov. Youngkin is hosting a “Red Vest Retreat” to strategize on how to help Republicans win more seats in Virginia’s General Assembly.
The RINO donors are heading to the retreat, according to Costa, because they see it as “an opportunity for them to try to push, if not shove, Youngkin into the Republican presidential race.” Another possibility for the billionaire donor class is Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, a noted Trump hater who refuses to reform any voting laws in his state after the 2020 election was clearly stolen there.
Last year, the donor class tried to entice South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem into challenging Trump. She was smart enough to not take the bait. Noem noted that she couldn’t possibly beat Trump in the 2024 Republican primary. She gave Trump her wholehearted endorsement last month. In doing so, she did not destroy her chances in 2028 (unlike some people).
What do you think? Will the donors succeed in luring Glenn Youngkin into the race—or will he turn out to be smarter than that?
