Machiavellian infighting among the Democrat Party in California has broken out as they’re squabbling over Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s seat already. Feinstein is clearly shot and is expected to announce at some point that she won’t be running for reelection in 2024. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) has announced that he plans to run for the seat. Meanwhile, California Gov. Gavin News is saying behind closed doors that he plans to appoint Oprah Winfrey to the seat if Feinstein resigns early.
The 90-year-old Feinstein looks and sounds terrible but has so far refused to resign. A lot of Democrats in Congress are calling on her to resign, but so long as Feinstein chooses to stay in the seat, there’s nothing they can do about it. In a curious development, Nancy Pelosi’s daughter has been caring for Feinstein. That has people speculating that Pelosi is trying to keep her in the seat, which would benefit Adam Schiff.
If Feinstein stays in office, it will allow Schiff to run for the seat next year in an open primary. San Francisco Mayor London Breed and far-left California Congresswoman Barbara Lee have also expressed interest in running for the seat. It clearly advantages Adam Schiff—lying weasel that he is—if Feinstein stays in office.
If she resigns early or dies, on the other hand, Gavin Newsom will get to nominate her replacement. Newsom has vowed to appoint a black woman to the seat, so why not Oprah? When skin color is the only qualification that we’re basing political choices on, rather than merit, it makes perfect sense to appoint Oprah Winfrey.
One big question is whether Oprah would even take the job, however. She’s already a billionaire, and who would want the headache of becoming a US Senator anyway? We don’t really care who ends up in the seat. We plan to just sit back and enjoy the show as the Democrats tear each other apart.
