The Squad’s Rep. Ayanna Pressley Paid Private Security Thousands in Taxpayer Funds While Crying ‘Defund the Police’

Rep. Ayanna Pressley, the Democratic Representative from Massachusetts, proudly identifies herself as one of the “Squad” in Washington. She has continually espoused progressive ideas and has harped on one of her favorites: Defund the police.

But it has been recently revealed in records from a Statement of Disbursements of the House that she has spent thousands of dollars on private security. And those dollars were taxpayer dollars…

The Daily Caller first reported on this issue in April of 2021. They revealed that Pressley and other members of her far-left “Squad” from Congress spent thousands of campaign funds on private security. Pressley was joined by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) in spending money on private security while calling for defunding the police.

Recently, based on the latest Statement of Disbursements of the House, Pressley spent $63,000 of her Member Representational Allowance (MRA) on security services in 2021. She spent $28,000 between Oct. 1, 2021, and Dec. 31, 2021, and another $35,000 between May 2021 and August 2021.

According to the actual payments, money was sent to Alisa Tatarian. She is the Financial Administrator at the U.S. House of Representatives. When the media asked her office how the money was spent on security services, they were not willing to respond.

The House of Representatives website states the following information, “The Member’s Representational Allowance (MRA) is intended for individual member offices’ expenditures and receipts during a single legislative year. The MRA is funded through fiscal year appropriations and authorized annually by the Committee on House Administration (CHA). It is non-transferable between legislative years.”

One unnamed GOP official told the media that a financial administrator handles all disbursements and reimbursements for members of Congress. They said it is unlikely that Pressley herself paid Tatarian for security services, she just listed her name to be used in the disbursement process.

Needless to say, this expenditure did not go without notice from some GOP leaders. Republican New York Rep. Elise Stefanik criticized Pressley by saying that she wants police for herself but not the rest of America.

“Ayanna Pressley and her fellow Squad members have repeatedly called for our police to be defunded while simultaneously paying top dollar for their own private security with taxpayer funds,” Stefanik wrote.

She continued by saying that violent crime rates are rising across many of our cities and the “Squad” want police just for themselves. She called the whole Democratic Party elitist hypocrites.

The House GOP Chairwoman declared that the people of America know this to be true, that is why there will be a “red tsunami” in November.

It was back in June of 2020, while America was at the height of racial tension because of the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, that Pressley spoke with TIME and said she supported defunding the police. She talked about the reason that the Congressional Black Caucus submits an alternative budget every year. Pressley said that her communities have been “historically under resourced, underinvested in and divested from.”

While speaking with CNN anchor Don Lemon, Pressley said that she supported the “radical reimagining of community safety.”

President Joe Biden distanced himself from the “Squad” in his State of the Union address. He said that America should be funding the police departments not defunding them. While most of the room stood to their feet to applaud, including most of the Democratic Party, the “Squad” remained in their seats.

So their reimagining is loud and clear: They should have police, we should pay for it, but we shouldn’t have police. Great plan, huh?
